Description
The Church of Saint John the Baptist is the town’s parish church. It is an important part of the local religious heritage and bears witness to the village’s development during the 19th century.
The present-day church was built in the third quarter of the 19th century and completed in 1861. Its design is attributed to Charles Carriat, a diocesan architect who was active in the region at the time.
The church features understated religious architecture, characteristic of rural parish churches of this period. Built from local stone, it generally comprises a single nave leading to a chancel, with a bell tower rising above the village.
Inside, the church preserves several narrative stained-glass windows depicting scenes associated with the founding of the parish and local religious life.
**Visiting information:** The church is open for self-guided visits. Keys can be collected from the town hall of La Monselie: +33 (0)4 71 78 33 03.
