Carp fishing
at night

Night fishing for carp is authorized on specific routes defined by prefectoral decree. In Sumène Artense, there are two specific areas for night carp fishing: at Lac de Lastioulles and along the bank between Château de Val and Plage de la Siauve on Lac de Bort-les-Orgues.

Beware of
hydroelectricity!

The lakes and rivers of Sumène Artense are influenced by the operation of hydroelectric power plants. Water releases may occur at any time, automatically and even in good weather. Access to riverbeds is not recommended throughout the territory.

Access, fishing, and navigation are prohibited near all structures related to hydroelectric facilities (power plants, dams, dikes, water pipes, spillways, etc.).

Can I
harvest fish?

Fish harvesting is permitted; however, quotas and legal minimum catch sizes (known as “size limits”) must be respected. These rules help limit the number of fish taken in order to ensure the renewal and sustainability of fish populations. It is prohibited to keep: Zander under 50 cm, Pike under 60 cm, Trout under 20 cm or 23 cm depending on the location

In Sumène Artense, a slot limit is applied on Lake Tact: pike cannot be kept if they are smaller than 60 cm or larger than 80 cm.

Quotas:
Harvesting is limited to a maximum of 6 trout per day per angler in 1st category waters, and 3 predatory fish per day per angler in 2nd category waters, including a maximum of 2 pike.

Crayfish
fishing

Crayfish are numerous in the rivers of Sumène Artense. The signal crayfish (or “California” crayfish) and the American crayfish are considered undesirable species in our waterways.

Their fishing is authorized during the entire opening period of 1st category waters and all year round in 2nd category waters.
A trap with a minimum mesh size of 10 mm must be used, and a fishing license is required.
They must not be released back into the water or transported alive under any circumstances.

Native crayfish (the white-clawed crayfish) have now almost disappeared from our rivers. They are protected species, and harvesting them is strictly prohibited.

No kill
in Sumène Artense

No-kill is a fishing technique that consists of never killing a caught fish.

No-Kill fishing areas are zones where all fish, regardless of the species, must be released back into the water:

  • The Lastioulles weir

  • The Sumène River: from Vendes Bridge (Bassignac) to the Marilhou power plant

  • 1,300 m section of the Mars River

Species that are strictly prohibited from being harvested in the area:

  • Largemouth bass, introduced into Lake Crégut

  • European grayling, introduced into the Rhue River
