Land
of adventure

Escape, exploration and emotion are the key words here.

Whether singular or plural, step-by-step or at a breakneck pace, these three words can be used in infinite combinations. As the forests, lakes and rivers flow by, adventure regains its full meaning.

You’re right at home, in the heart of nature!

Hiking

The paths of Sumène Artense are a hiking paradise. They alternate between forests, meadows, lakeshores, rocky promontories and valley bottoms. Stones, whether in dry-stone walls, villages, cliffs or rocky chaos, are everywhere.

The 460 km Itinérêve itinerary takes you from village to dam along the Dordogne basin (UNESCO Biosphere Reserve).

Fishing

A wild and free space, Little Scandinavia offers an exceptional playground for all fishing enthusiasts. In the rivers, where the fario trout is the king of fish, rapid currents, small waterfalls, pools and deep chasms follow one another between sandy beaches and immense boulders.

On the Artense plateau, the many lakes with their sometimes indented shores, featuring here and there peninsulas, emerging islets and small cliffs, are set against a landscape of moorland and woodland. The Scandinavian atmosphere allows you to seek out other species such as carnivorous fish and carp.

The pleasures
of water

A land of lakes, this little Scandinavia offers three sandy beaches with lifeguards during the summer vacations, at the Val site, La Siauve and Lastioulles, the only beach in the Cantal to be awarded the Pavillon Bleu.
Two heated open-air swimming pools are open in summer at Saignes and Champs-sur-Tarentaine.

Lovers of water sports will be delighted on both lakes and rivers: from paddling to canyoning, sailing, boat trips and water skiing.

Riding

Two bridle paths cross Little Scandinavia and link up with various hiking trails in the Cantal and Puy-de-Dôme regions.

The Cantal – Puy de Dôme and Artense – Pays Gentiane links, both departing from Champs-sur-Tarentaine, connect with the “Dômes Sancy” itinerary to the north and the “Cézallier – Limon” itinerary to the south.

Our horse-riding farms welcome you for introductions or rides from a very young age.
