PR 5 : Autour de Mérigot
Champs-sur-Tarentaine-Marchal
Opening period
All year round.
Description
A hike to discover the typical Artense landscapes: woods, meadows, wetlands, isolated farms and dry-stone walls. In autumn, the bellowing of the stag invites itself onto the plateau... listen carefully!
In autumn, the forests of Sumène Artense resound with the hoarse, powerful cry of the stag's bellow.
When the mating season is in full swing, the hinds gather on the "braying grounds". The numerous suitors gathered around the females compete in impressive vocal jousts, sometimes ending in fights.
Departure point: Hameau de Perol.
From the center of the hamlet, take the wide track downhill. At the crow's feet, take the right-hand track.
Alternative: From the hamlet of La Bonnetie, an unmarked alternative route leads to Mérigot, where a mysterious structure overlooks the hamlet and its pond. This is a vestige in the shape of a large table, probably dating from before the 10th century, but whose original function is still unknown.
