PR 18 : Sur les pas des Cerfs

Le Monteil

Opening period

All year round.

Description

This hike takes you back in time, in the footsteps of our Auvergne ancestors, from the 14th to the 19th centuries.
In Aldy wood, the route passes through the ruins of an ancient village, probably dating from the 14th century, with the outlines of its dwellings still marked by stone alignments.
At the end of the hamlet of Bélière, on the roadside, a remarkable fence was built at the end of the 19th century by the "peasant painter" Pierre Guignebourg, known as Millange. The wall is made of large lava blocks. This enclosure certainly remains the most exceptional of the low walls that structured the spaces in our region. Its construction represents a feat that earned its creator agricultural merit.
Departure point: Hamlet of Bélière.
From Le Monteil, take the D30 to the hamlet of La Cartelade, then follow the signs for Bélière for 700m before finding the starting point (parking lot). Follow the road uphill on foot.
